Point Counterpoint started with issues pertaining to environment (Global Warming, Carbon Credit etc, etc.).  And now moving on similar lines, though a more political issue, I discuss the issue of Nuclear power… obviously for commercial use … from technological point of view & political view.
As an engineer, technology has always been a fascination. And we see this nuclear deal as a technological advancement into a new era where CO2 emissions are drastically reduced & where we aim to clean our air & environment. Not moving around the bush, I state some concrete points to support this nuclear deal. Here I go: •    Quantities Fossil Fuel is exponentially decreasing. And these are Non-Renewable sources of energy so we are not seeing them in our lifetime again once we burn them.
•    Fuel Prices are increasing which becomes a burden for countries like INDIA to meet its requirements because it’s not an oil producing country. And above all its trade deficit has been increasing (on a negative side).
•    Burning these fossil fuels emits CO2 that is harmful for environment & we all know that.
•    Nuclear Power, though a bit expensive initially, can prove to be a very good source of power over a long run.
•    Energy obtained from nuclear fission & fusion reactions is enormous which can easily be used to generate huge amounts of electricity.
•    Nuclear power plant uses nuclear fuel & gives out nuclear material as a waste product which again is recyclable with present technologies. And these technologies are only going to be improved & brushed up.
•    For Example: France meets around 78% of its electricity requirements using Nuclear power & China is on average constructing 1 nuclear plant in every 2 days. This is the rate with which CHINA is growing. (Source: Hindustan Times).

So using this Nuclear Power (for commercial use) at this point will surely lead INDIA to realize its VISION 2020. If we delay this technology, we will lag behind in this mad race of becoming a super-power. So according to me, Dr. Manmohan Singh is again taking a very bold step(like he did in 1992) but I am 110% sure its going to make INDIA a more technologically advanced nation but it’ll take some 5-6 years to see the outcomes & benefits. And at that time, we would be thanking him for taking this decision. We still thank him for his decision to open our economy & liberalize it – A decision that he and then PM Narsimha Rao took in 1992 when INDIA almost got bankrupt. At that time, he was criticized for the decision & he is being criticized at the moment also. We see this advanced INDIA because of the decisions of 1992 … and we see an even brighter INDIA if we go ahead with the deal. Dr. Manmohan Singh’s decisions are purely for FUTURE of INDIA. It might not cater to AAM AADMI (common people) needs at present but this is for them only.  And our scientists will get to gain knowledge of new technologies & can work with USA to improve them. It’s a mutual world out there. No one can survive as ONE!!! May be this is why USA needs Indian brain on this technology & is pushing this deal forward & mending the International Nuclear Laws for INDIA.( I FEEL PROUD TO TYPE THIS LINE THAT INTERNATIONAL LAWS ARE BEING MENDED FOR INDIA )
In the end I can just say … its all political in INDIA … nothing is technological So let’s wait and watch … 7 days to go …
